FENCES opens March  29 and runs through April 21.  Troy Maxson was a talented baseball player in the Negro Leagues who came along when Major League Baseball was still segregated. Now it’s 1957 and he’s a trash collector in Pittsburgh, living with his wife, Rose; his son, Cory; and his psychologically damaged brother, Gabriel. He’s a man of great dignity with a strong work ethic and even stronger convictions; he is also rigid, angry at the hand he’s been dealt, and prone to violent outbursts. His thoughtless actions and uncompromising attitudes lead to devastating consequences for his family.

Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Show

PALM BEACH, Fla. Barrett-Jackson made history in Scottsdale this January by selling more cars at No Reserve than ever before, while identifying a number of key collector car market trends that the company will continue to fuel during the 17th Annual Palm Beach Auction, April 11-13, 2019, at the South Florida Fairgrounds. The growing demand for professionally built Resto-Mods along with new and classic imports ‒ trends that have long been predicted by Barrett-Jackson’s Craig Jackson and Steve Davis ‒ will make up an enviable part of this year’s Palm Beach Auction. Among those vehicles already consigned are a 2010 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (#721) with just over 7,000 actual miles, as well as a 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Coupe (Lot #734)  and a fully restored matching-numbers 1967 Shelby GT500 (Lot #737). Equipped with a Roadster Shop narrowed Fast Track chassis and powered by a GM Performacne LT1 direct-injected engine, this 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Coupe (Lot #734) produces 460hp and 465 ft/lbs of torque.

“Being at the forefront of the shifts in collector car buying – as they happen ‒ is an enviable place to be in,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “We’re fortunate to have the market knowledge, intel and data to build dockets that represent what buyers want. I believe our Palm Beach Auction will be a direct reflection of how we’re keeping the passion of this hobby alive. We’ll continue to stay in the driver’s seat by staying abreast of trends and consigning the types of cars that are in high demand.

A Teenage Christian Bale in "Empire of the Sun"

Christian Bale was just 13 years old when he starred in this Steven Spielberg epic. Based on J. G. Ballard's autobiographical novel, tells the story of a boy, James Graham, whose privileged life is upturned by the Japanese invasion of Shanghai, December 8, 1941. Separated from his parents, he is eventually captured, and taken to Soo Chow confinement camp, next to a captured Chinese airfield. Amidst the sickness and food shortages in the camp, Jim attempts to reconstruct his former life, all the while bringing spirit and dignity to those around him.  Before Batman, American Psycho, American Hustle, and Vice, Bale showed his acting chops in this sweeping film.  There are more than enough memorable scenes from Bale, like when he's dressed as an Arabian prince, or when he gets slapped around from the servants, or his "soochow" scene. This is a classic  worth seeing every now and then to remind us of the early days of an actor who comes about but once in a generation.
